The Space Museum Project
Kia ora, my name is Dave Owen and I live in a small rural town called Te Awamutu in New Zealand. To the rest of the world I appear to be a 43-year old retired media producer, but on the inside I'm a 10-year-old boy who likes to play with toy rockets.
This website is all about my long-term plan to create a boutique space museum in my home town. The plan is wildly optimistic and I may be utterly out of my depth but I'm going ahead anyway.
Goals of the Project:
- To provide a fun activity for families, school groups, etc.
- To inspire an interest in space, science and (most importantly) critical thinking.
- To satisfy my lust for space bling.
The project is currently in the very early stages. I have a small collection of space memorabilia and other items on display in my office, and over the next few years I'll try to collect more high-quality items as well as a whole bunch of supporting material (see the task list).
As I work on the real-world display I'll also continue to develop this website, both as a record of my progress and as a general space-related resource. Then, hopefully, the money generated by ads on these pages will help fund the museum. Sweet deal if it works.
I'll post any significant updates in my Space Blog (RSS feed here).
